1. Kitchen Design Auckland
Your kitchen. Designed around you.
ARK Kitchen designs kitchens around the people who live with them every day. Our approach values function, breathing space, light, balance and a sense of calm over unnecessary decoration or showroom-style features.
2. Space, Flow & Storage
How should a kitchen work in everyday life?
A kitchen should make everyday tasks easier. We plan the space around movement, preparation, cooking, appliances and storage, while considering how the kitchen connects with dining and living areas.
Flow
Work areas and walkways should make sense together, so cooking, cleaning and moving through the kitchen do not constantly interfere with each other.
Proportion
More cabinetry or a larger island is not always better. The kitchen needs to fit the scale of the room and leave enough space for movement and the rest of the home.
Storage
Storage starts with what actually needs a place. Frequently used items, cookware, pantry goods and appliances should be organised around where and how they are used — not simply hidden behind more cabinet doors.
Small spaces
Smaller kitchens need greater efficiency. Necessary storage and working space come first, but efficient planning can still reduce visual weight and avoid making the room feel overcrowded.

3. Colour, Finish & Materials
How should colour and materials work with the space?
Colour and materials should be considered as part of the room rather than selected in isolation. Natural light, ceiling height, room size and surrounding surfaces all affect how cabinetry colours, woodgrains, benchtops and different levels of sheen will appear once the kitchen is built. Matte, low-sheen and high-gloss finishes can all work in the right setting; what matters is how the different elements balance together, what should carry more visual weight and what should remain quieter.
Why does ARK maintain a selected Materials Library?
A design still has to become a real kitchen. ARK’s Materials Library brings the design direction together with materials, finishes, benchtops, hardware and components that we can actually specify, price, source and build with. Instead of starting from an unlimited catalogue, it gives us a practical range from which different colours, textures and combinations can be developed for each project.
How does ARK select materials?
We look beyond colour alone. Materials are considered for their appearance, suitability for cabinetry, everyday use, supply reliability, technical information and how they work with the rest of our production system. Price also matters: a material needs to make sense for the project, not simply add specification for its own sake.
How does a design become a material selection?
The process starts with the overall direction — the space, light, colours, texture and visual weight we want to achieve. From there, we narrow the choices to specific panels, benchtops, hardware and finishes from the Materials Library, so the final selection reflects the design while remaining something ARK can actually build.
